A Porto return for Anderson?

Reports in France suggest Anderson’s time at Manchester United could come to an end in January as David Moyes looks set to use the 25-year-old as a makeweight in a deal to bring FC Porto duo Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi to Old Trafford.

French newspaper Le 10 Sport has said that Manchester City are also interested in the highly-rated players while another of the teams heavily backed in the sports betting markets to win this season’s Premier League title, Chelsea, have also been linked with Otamendi.

Anderson has been rumoured to be returning to Porto for some time, having drifted out of the first-team picture at Old Trafford.

He has only featured in three Premier League matches so far this season, the last being the embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to West Brom in September.

That result left United in mid-table and seemingly out of the running for the title this season, but a run of four wins and a draw since the Baggies setback has lifted them to fifth in the table and recent betting suggests that many people think yet another Premier League title is not beyond them.

Anderson has featured in 103 Premier League matches since arriving at United from Porto in July 2007 for £27million.

However, after making 24 league appearances in the 2007-08 campaign, he has never featured in more than 18 games in a season and has only found the net five times in his time at Old Trafford.

A return to Porto would not necessarily be a bad move for Anderson as they currently top the Primeira Liga table and are on course to win the title for a 28th time.

They are also third in their Champions League group and have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stages in the new year.
